🚨 SCAM ALERT: Protect Your Personal Information! 🚨
URGENT WARNING to Southwest Texas Electric Cooperative (SWTEC) Members
SWTEC has been made aware of a telephone scam targeting our members. Scammers are impersonating SWTEC representatives and attempting to trick you into providing sensitive financial information.
How the Scam Works
- The Call: The scammer calls and claims to be an SWTEC representative.
- The Claim: They falsely state that you have overpaid your electric bill and are due a credit or refund.
- The Request: To process this supposed "refund," the scammer then asks you to provide your credit card number or debit card information.
DO NOT give them any information. This is a malicious attempt to steal your financial data.
✅ What You Need to Know & What to Do
- SWTEC WILL NEVER CALL YOU TO ASK FOR YOUR CREDIT CARD OR DEBIT CARD INFORMATION TO PROCESS A REFUND OR CREDIT.
- If you receive a suspicious call:
- Hang up immediately.
- DO NOT confirm any personal or financial information.
- Call SWTEC directly or check your bill on our website.
Your security is our top priority. Please share this information with friends and neighbors who are also SWTEC members.
If you have already provided information to the scammer, be sure to get in touch with your bank or credit card company immediately.
