Youth Tour 2020 Guidelines and Application

YOUTH TOUR CONTEST GUIDELINES AND APPLICATION

Each year Southwest Texas Electric Cooperative sponsors up to two students on the Government in Action Youth Tour trip" " to Washington D.C.The seven day tour includes visits to the National Cathedral, Lincoln Memorial, Mount Vernon, and the Smithsonian Museum, as well as a host of other national sites. The students also have the opportunity to have down time and fun in the form of dinners at such places as The Hard Rock Cafe, shopping at Union Center, dances, etc.

The contest is open to any student who is a sophomore, junior, or senior in the school year 2019/2020 in one the these school districts: Crockett County, Iraan-Sheffield, Menard, Sutton, Schleicher, and Reagan County.  

This is an all expense paid trip and the winning students will receive air fare, transportation, lodging, meals, and admission charges associated with the tour.

The winning participants for the 2019 Government in Action Youth Tour were Jamie Hough of Menard, Jacqui Lozano of Eldorado, and Micaela Forlano of Eldorado.

The 2020 Government-in-Action Youth Tour trip will be June 17-26.

To apply for the trip, please fill out and submit the application below and complete essay

****Deadline for entries is Wednesday, January 15, 2020****

An independent committee will select the winning essays on the basis on knowledge of the subject, originality, composition, neatness, and grammar. Reference materials and other information can be obtained at local high schools, public libraries, online, or at Southwest Texas Electric Cooperative in Eldorado. 

The top 6 essays will be sorted into a "Top Applicant Category." Those in the top applicant category will then enter the Interview Section on Tuesday, February 11, starting at 4:30 PM. There will be a panel of 3-5 judges for the questions and answers session. The panel of judges will then determine the 2 Youth Tour Contest Winners along with 2 runner-ups in the event a winner cannot make the trip. Winners will be notified by Friday, February 14, 2020.
